Philos in ancient Greek means love and respect for another human being. This absolute compassion originates from greater self-awareness. Such affection requires deep cognitive function and is a primordial aspect of altruistic behavior, in which an individual shows concern for the well-being of others. Improved critical thinking and less primitive judgment potentiate Philos. The human capacity to think collectively may have promoted Philos. Regardless, we are social beings capable of understanding the universe like no other creatures on planet Earth. We reached this high level of awareness as we rationalized cause and effect relationships in everything we do.
Evolutionary forces have promoted size, speed and strength conditions since the beginning of life on planet Earth. Only in the past 2.5 million years of Earth’s history have these forces focused on the form of intelligence as the Homo species evolved. Since the Paleozoic Era over five hundred million years ago, early memory systems have existed through a development of the brain which helped facilitated recognition for survival purposes. However, detailed memory systems involving intelligence did not evolve until human ancestors came into the picture about five million years ago.
Although we accomplished so much since the dawn of the Homo sapiens, our unwillingness to change what we are already adapted to is a major handicap in our advancement. Unless we free ourselves from our accustomed state, we are bound to face the human dilemma of not being well aware that would place humankind at risk for extinction. An inability to become more aware not only places us in danger, it also prevents us from entering into the next rise in human evolution.
Having intelligence does not necessarily make us better beings, but it is a requirement for us to advance towards the next generation of humankind. As we free ourselves from the instinctive traits that influence us, we can discover who we are. We will be welcomed to a new era of humanity that will be more altruistic. A human being at such a state of superior awareness will be better equipped to survive into the future, to conquer natural disasters and cosmic threats
After we begin our journey, it takes many decades to accumulate knowledge. There are so many people along the path that we encounter and interact with. We learn so much, yet the more we learn, the more we realize how little we know. We develop skills to appreciate the things that life has brought us, regardless of its content. Once we become masters of this, we indulge ourselves in collecting data no matter where it is coming from and in making use of this information when necessary.
One wonders, “What good is an idea that may be so powerful if it is never shared for the benefit of humankind?” We are living in times where humankind faces challenges that will determine if any future is visible for us. Our presence on this planet will be short lived if we cannot control the risks to human civilization and the planet. There are dangers to the future of humankind including nuclear weapons, wars, clashes between different nations, religions, cultures as well as other belief systems, terrorism, and diseases. Not only do we have to control threats that results from human defects, but we also have to use our intelligence wisely to be prepared for natural disasters such as global pandemics, climate change, ecological disasters, tsunamis, volcanoes, meteorite impacts and other cosmic threats. Increasing the world’s population and the agricultural crisis are also concerning threats to humankind in this new millennium.
If all people would use objective reasoning such as science and mathematics as a baseline for expression, much of the problems we have on this planet due to human nature would be resolved. What would have been considered a survival trait 200,000 years ago when the human genome was engineered could now be considered a human defect that could have damaging effects on human accomplishment! It is important to improve our self awareness to prevent human extinction that otherwise imminently would result from human nature. The purpose of this society is for the greater good of humankind. There is no political or religious agenda. What is at stake here is humankind’s future which we need to protect. For those who have an open mind, this society could sharpen an individual’s internal awareness, as well.
